Claim/Topic Sentence - Evidence - Commentary

Write one (1) body paragraph for one (1) of the thesis statements you developed in class today.  You should aim for 6-7 sentences for this assignment. The last sentence should be a transition to the next paragraph. 

 

EXAMPLE: 

THESIS/CLAIM: When it comes to domesticated pets, cats are a better choice than dogs for people who are not at home often because they are comfortable being solitary, do not need to be taken out on a schedule, and can help reduce their owner's stress levels. 

BODY PARAGRAPH 2

Another reason that cats are a good choice of pet for people who are not home often is that cats do not need to be taken out on a schedule. Cats, unlike pets like dogs, do not need to go on multiple walks a day. They are able to use a litter box, which means their owners do not have to be home at any particular time to walk them. This would be difficult for someone who has a long commute, has to work late, or makes social plans for after working all day. Dogs can only stay home for a certain amount of hours before their owner, or a dog walker, would have to take them out. While a cat owner may have to pay for litter, a dog owner may have to pay a lot more for a dog walker. Not having to be home at a certain time to take care of a pet would also reduce an owner's daily stress levels, something very important to help with mental health.
