Let me take this time to welcome all of you to the 2017-18 school year and my Athletic Director’s blog. I hope to be able to keep you informed of the many things that will be taking place in the athletic department this year. We are anxious to get started and happy to have you along for the ride.
Congratulations to Senior swimmer Christin Rockway who earned a spot on the USA Junior National team (pictured from previous blog report) and will be competing next week in the Junior World Championships in Indianapolis. Christin will be one of 23 girls from around the country that will be competing for the United States. She will be swimming the 400IM.
This will now be the 3rd summer in a row that a Tampa Catholic athlete will be representing the United States in international competition. TC alum and current University of Kentucky student/athlete Kevin Knox represented the United States in the World Basketball Games in both 2015 and 2016. Now Christin joins that elite group next week as she dons the red, white, and blue and competes for her country. It should prove to be a great experience for her. She leaves Sunday for Indianapolis and will be competing next Wednesday.
Christin has committed to the University of Indiana and will be featured in a national show called Sports Stars of Tomorrow. Her story will air the week of Oct. 7. In the past the show has been on Channel 13 on Sunday mornings. I’m not sure exactly when it will be showed that weekend. Keep your eye out for it. Christin joins 4 other TC athletes that have been on the show. Featured stories were done in the past on football players Nate Craig and Devin Barrett, both at Auburn, basketball player Kevin Knox, now at Kentucky, and a short highlight on Thomas Dziagwa, now at Oklahoma State, and now Christin, who will be at Indiana next year. I’m not sure there have been any schools in the country that have had so many student/athletes on this show. We are proud of all of them, follow them in college, and plan on enjoying this last season that we have Christin here at TC. She is phenomenal and if you have a chance to see her swim take advantage of it, she truly is amazing.
CROSS COUNTRY: This week I’d like to feature and welcome to our coaching staff our new cross country coach Adriane Wunderlich. Adriane has some big shoes to fill as she replaces Michele Small who was our cross-country coach for the last 3 years and did an outstanding job with our runners. Adriane comes to us with a wealth of running knowledge. She did her undergraduate work at Indiana State University and received her Master’s degree there in Exercise Science. She went on to coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, IN, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, TX, and St. Leo University where she is pursuing her 2nd Master’s degree, this one in Theology. She is the owner/Operator of WunderFit LLC. and has numerous speciaiist certifications in track and cross country running. She is a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Church where she is a young adult ministry coordinator. We are very happy to have her join us here at TC and welcome her to our family. If you see her around be sure to also welcome her and introduce yourself to her. We know she is already doing a great job. You may see some of our runners on your way to work as they have been running some in the early mornings. The team’s first meet will be Sat. Aug. 26 in the Jim Ryan Invite held at Holloway Park in Lakeland. Jim Ryun, 3 time Olympian, and first high school runner to break 4:00 in the mile will actually be present at the race. It should be a great start to the season.
TICKETS: TC is going digital. You now have the option of purchasing tickets to our home and some away athletic events online or on your phone. We have teamed up with GoFan to offer digital tickets to our many fans. Paper tickets will still be available for all of our events, but if you don’t want to wait in line or like to purchase things using credit card you now can do this. Simply go to the GoFan website, search Tampa Catholic and you will see the athletic events where you can purchase your tickets online. If you purchase your tickets this way, all you need to do is bring your phone to the ticket table and show our volunteers there that you did indeed purchase your tickets from GoFan and our volunteers will confirm your purchase and grant admittance. GoFan also has a mobile app that you can download to your phone to make the process especially easy for you. Of course, the option of purchasing your tickets at the gate with cash will still be there for you. This is just another option we are offering our fans.

We are always looking for volunteers to work our gate and ticket sales, concession stands, and parking at our games. Sign up on the Sign-up Genius on our TC website. Felicia White coordinates all of our volunteers and would love to hear from you. Remember we are all a part on helping our student/athletes become champions on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. GO CRUSADERS!!
