A Very Merry Christmas!

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  This will be my last blog of 2016 and as we finish up exams this week we head into the holidays with several of our teams off to faraway places to play.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Our Lady Crusader basketball team is off to a fantastic start on the season.  They currently have a 10-0 record and will be very busy over the holiday break.  Tonight the team is home here in The Castle for a district game against Sarasota Military Academy.  There is only a varsity game tonight starting at 7:00.  Next week we will host a holiday tournament here in The Castle.  The tourney starts on Tuesday with 4 games tipping off at 3:00.  TC plays Plant in the 7:30 game.

Four games are on tap for Wednesday, Dec. 21, and Thursday, Dec. 22.  The championship game is next Thursday at 7:00.  After Christmas our girls will travel to Atlanta, GA for a national tournament.  It will be a very busy holiday for the team.

BOYS BASKETBALL: The boys’ basketball team is off to a 4-1 start and #1 ranking in the Tampa Bay Times 5 county area.  The team travels today to Ft. Myers to play a showcase game against East St. Louis in the City of the Palms Classic.  Next week the team will defend its city championship from last year as they will play in the City of Tampa Championship next Mon.-Wed. at Tampa Prep.  We play Plant on Monday at 6:00.

After Christmas the team will fly to Raleigh, NC to play in the John Wall Holiday Classic tournament.  This is a national event and we have made arrangements to Basketball_BoysV_2017_IMG_3472_web.jpgpractice in the Dean Dome on the campus of the University of North Carolina and in Cameron Indoor Stadium on the campus of Duke University while up there.  The tournament is being played at Broughton High School in the same gym that Pete Maravich played.  It will be a very challenging 2 weeks for the team.

GIRLS SOCCER: Our girls’ soccer team will travel to Anclote HS in Pasco Co. tonight for a 6:30 match.  The team returns to action after the New Year on Jan. 3 with a home match against Calvary Christian at 5:00.

BOYS SOCCER: Our boys’ soccer team also play tonight as both the JV and Varsity travel to Shorecrest in St. Pete for matches.  JV is at 5:00 with the Varsity to follow at 7:00.  The Varsity return to action next year on Jan. 3 with a home match against Northeast at 7:00.

Kosiba_Michael.jpgTC Hall of Famer Mike Kosiba '67 passed away this past Wednesday.  Mike was Mr. Basketball in my early years coaching here as he did just about everything from running the clock, keeping the scorebook, and compiling all the stats for our team for many years.  He was very instrumental in our State Championship run in 1995.  Along with Mike, both of his sons, Cory '89 and Chris '93, are TC graduates and great basketball players for our teams.  Both sons went on to play college ball.  Our condolences are with them and his wife Judy.  Funeral arrangements are not known at this time.

On another sad note 1000 point scorer Jerry Shipman also lost his life this past week in an auto accident.  Jerry is 7th on the all-time scoring list with 1515 points.  He was a 1974 graduate.  Our prayers are also with his family.

May both of these great men RIP.
