TC Pet Owners Seek Blessings for Furry Friends

On this past Friday, October 4th, our TC Campus Ministry Team once again hosted the annual “Blessing of the Pets”, as a crowd of 200 parents and students mingled with their beloved furry friends. Father Bruce Craig, SDB intoned the opening words of the prayer service, “The Lord is with you”, above the whines, pants, barks and embarrassed whispers of "sit," "stay," "good boy", and even “Spot, don’t embarrass us”.

Taryn Harpole, a student member of the Campus Ministry Team, proclaimed the reading from the book of Genesis: “God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good.” Following the readings and prayers, Father Bruce Craig SDB and Brother Chris Burns began blessing the 125 well-behaved pets. This year saw the usual menagerie of pets; dogs, cats, birds, as well as some exotic pets; a leopard gecko, a boa constrictor snake, and a guinea pig. The winning pets in the categories of Cutest, Friendliest, and Most Exotic Pets were owned by Nathan Dean, Hannah Huseby, and Ashley Castaneda respectively.

At the conclusion of the service, refreshments were served, certificates were distributed, and the guests proudly posed for pictures with their pets.
