Tampa Catholic High School embodies Caritas with the CareFest initiative!
CareFest was a service week of the Diocese of St. Petersburg that was celebrated in 2016. Catholic students joined other volunteers throughout the Bay in order to to help support the local community in diverse ways. Tampa Catholic has continued to celebrate this Caritas annually because it clearly demonstrates the charism of what it means to be a Crusader.
TC students nurtured the generosity of giving one's time by committing three hours on a weeknight to perform a variety of kitchen duties assisting Metropolitan Ministries. We love partnering with MetroMin of Tampa! as they help us to develop strong community servants. Our students mopped floors, washed dishes, and served meals!
Many in our freshman classes donated materials and made blankets for the homeless in Tampa. They will be distributed through our partnership with Metropolitan Ministries.
Other students made table decorations with loving messages to brighten up the cafeteria for residents at Rocky Creek Assisted Living Facility while some wrote notes of gratitude and encouragement to priests and seminarians to show appreciation for that sacred vocation.
The TC Ecology Club lived out the Social Justice teaching of Care for God's Creation by joining other volunteers in cleaning up Picnic Island Park. The Holy Father himself emphasized the importance of this effort now and for generations to come.
Our community created take-away bags of toiletries and snacks for the homeless and working poor that are fed at Trinity Cafe. Seniors lived out the corporal work of feeding the hungry by collecting non-perishable foods that benefited the clients of Kaye Prox Food Bank in Town ’N Country. And Mrs. Norden’s Theology classes showed their patriotism by participating in the "Mail call" for Honor Flight that blesses Veterans on their way back home after visiting US war memorials.
And TC's Enrollment and Technology Departments contributed to our week of Caritas with a supply drive supporting the Humane Society of Tampa Bay!
