A little over 4 years ago Andrew Joseph, III was an 8th student at St. Stephens in Riverview. He applied to Tampa Catholic and looked forward to being a student-athlete and represent the green and white as a Crusader in high school. Tragically, Andrew lost his life before he could realize his dreams.
This week we remember Andrew, and the qualities that made him part of our TC Family, the Crusader qualities remembered by his mother Mrs. Joseph.
“Andrew Joseph III was our only son, he was kind and generous and possessed many of characteristics of a well-rounded human being. Andrew had many friends, he was and advocate for those who struggled with self-esteem or lacked motivation.
Andrew was an exceptional athlete, he loved being in activities and energizing those around him. Andrew had a great sense of humor and could always look to the bright side of issues, he was the child every parent would dream of by his love for Christ and his family.
When Andrew was alive he had a deep desire to attend Tampa Catholic High School, he knew that this was the one place that was Christ driven and carried the mission of service with love and integrity. His love and light continue to resonate today, 4 years since he was killed.”
Andrew was accepted to Tampa Catholic but his acceptance letter arrived after his death. That letter is a cherished memento in the Joseph household. It speaks to affinity and love that Andrew and his family have for Tampa Catholic.
He would have been a senior, set to graduate from Tampa Catholic High School this month, had he lived to grow up into a young adult. Andrew’s path was cut short in 2014 when he was struck and killed by a car on Interstate 4. Since this time, Andrew’s family and local community groups have made an effort to work with local government to continually improve the safety of Student Fair Day. He is remembered by the tireless work of the Andrew Joseph Foundation.
This week at the Senior Farewell event, we remembered and honored Andrew’s memory by issuing him an honorary diploma with the Class of 2018, his high school graduation year. Andrew will always be a Crusader.
