Congratulations to our Boy's Single and Girl's Double on their performances this past weekend at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America Championships in Camden, New Jersey. The Girl's Double, with Senior Madyson Melendez and Junior Isabel Hauber, competing against boats from some of the best scholastic teams in the United States, gave it their best effort but were unable to qualify for a spot in the Semifinals. Junior Jack Muller, our entry in the Boy's Single, did qualify for a spot in the Semifinals on Saturday morning, but was unable to advance to the finals in the afternoon. It's always an eye opener when one sees the level of competition at Nationals. On a separate note, aircraft cancellations delayed my arrival until Friday evening and prevented some of Hillsborough's team from racing in Friday morning's qualifiers. It was nice to have some of the Tampa coaches helping our team out in my absence. Results for the weekend's races can always be found at regattacentral.com.
SUMMER 2017: With exams behind us, it is important for those interested in rowing next August to look into summer programs that will not only maintain their levels of fitness but will build their strength and endurance in order to enhance their ability to perform when we regroup in August. Stay strong - get stronger.
