Rain, Rain, And More Rain

As I write this blog on Tuesday of this week I send my prayers and thoughts to all of those that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey.  We have certainly had a lot of rain here in Tampa, but nothing like what the people of Texas and Houston are now going through.  And the forecast there is for more rain as I write this.  Please do whatever you can for the relief funds that have been set up to help the people there.  Of course, your prayers always help.

The weather here got the best of our football game last Friday against Gibbs.  After numerous lightning delays and with the hope that the skies would clear it just wasn’t meant to be.  We had pushed the game back to a possible 8:30 start with the hope that things would clear, the teams would take a short 10-15 minute worm-up, and we would get underway.  That wasn’t meant to be as about 8:00 we were under a deluge of pouring rain and unbelievable lightning.  Our press box was hit and knocked out our scoreboard which we have trying to get fixed.  Thankfully no one got hurt.  Tonight the team travels to Tarpon Springs to play the 1-0 Spongers.  Let’s hope for good weather.

Rockeay_Instagram.jpgSWIMMING: The weather got the best of our opening swim meet at Brandon on Monday as it was cancelled due to the weather.  The weather and not much else though could stop senior swimmer Christin Rockway.  Christin swam representing the United States in the World Junior Olympics in Indianapolis last week and finished 6th in her event, the 400IM.  6th IN THE WORLD!  WOW!  We couldn’t be more proud of Christin.

VOLLEYBALL WINS 2 CONSECUTIVE MATCHES: After an opening season loss to Berkeley Prep Coach Morgan Toney’s volleyball team has bounced back with consecutive 3-0 wins over St. Pete High and Cypress Creek.

IMG_0185_v2_golf2017.jpgBOYS GOLF: The boys golf team opened their season last week at Rocky Point Golf Course with a match featuring Berkeley Prep, Jesuit, and Plant.  The team defeated Berkeley but lost to Jesuit and Plant.  The team is on the links with matches this week at Cheval and Temple Terrace.

CROSS COUNTRY: The cross-country teams opened their seasons last Sat. over in Lakeland in the Jim Ryun Invite.  Jim Ryun was actually at the race.  Ryun was the first high school runner to run the mile in under 4:00 and went on to Olympic stardom.  Coach Adriane Wunderlich actually trained on the same track as Ryun at Indiana State University.  It was very neat as she got to meet him.
