HOMECOMING: What a great week of events for Homecoming 2016 here at TC! Tonight will start off with a Hall of Fame reception in the Learning Lab, followed by the HOF dinner in the gym, the HOF induction ceremony, and then our football game against Berkeley Prep. This is always a great week for our students, faculty, and staff, as we have a theme everyday where they can dress up according to the theme for the day. Also on Friday morning our pep rally was covered by Fox13. It seems like we win this TV pep rally every year, which is a great testament to all of our fans who vote and that determines what school gets on TV. I hope that many of you alums will make your way back to campus this evening. Many great things are happening at TC and we want all the alumni to stay involved with their alma mater. It’s great for me when I see so many of you back on campus. Once a Crusader, always a Crusader.
Let’s not forget the game against Berkeley tonight. This will be our first district game. The football team is coming off of a great game last Friday against CCC, a team who was ranked #1 in the state in our classification. Our team had a great goal line stand late, very late in the 4th quarter of that game to win 25-21. Let’s cheer the team on tonight to their first district win.
Homecoming concludes on Saturday night with the homecoming dance. This year the dance is being held at Lowry Park Zoo. I can’t think of a more unique place to hold it. It’s my understanding that some of the animals will even be out to greet the students as they enter. Sounds to me to be pretty neat, cool, and whatever adjective is now being used by our students to indicate something great.
DIMAGGIO GOLF CLASSIC: The Nick DiMaggio, long time great AD here at TC, Golf Classic is this Monday at Carrollwood Country Club. The proceeds for the golf tournament all go to help fund the athletic department so I encourage all of you to get involved. I know many of you will be golfing and many others have supported this event with donations. Thanks for your great support. Our athletic program could not function without all of your help and contributions. If you would still like to contribute you can contact Bart Cobb, Director of Advancement. You probably won’t be able to reach him today or Monday, but he is available after that. You also can always contact me. We are happy to accept any donations. I can assure you that all donations will be put to good use within our athletic department. Although I consider myself a pretty good golfer I won’t be golfing on Monday, but I will be there to thank all of you who are going to golf. I figure that without me you will all have a better chance at winning the tourney. I’m happy to ride around on a golf cart and let someone else bask in the glory of a championship.
GOLF: Speaking of golf our golf team has been playing very well lately. Several of our golfers are shooting their best scores now and this is great heading into the district tournament on Oct. 12 at Westchase Country Club.
SWIM: The swim team had a nice win last week over Brandon Academy. Both the boys and girls team won and the girls team also defeated TBT. Our swimmers will be in the Tampa Bay Classic Meet tomorrow in St. Pete.
CROSS COUNTRY: From the water back to land with our cross country team. Our runners are continuing to make improvements on their times. They will be running again next Wed. at Al Lopez Park in the county Freshman/Sophomore meet.
CREW: The big story with crew is the new dock that we will be getting down on the river. We are in the process of obtaining permits, then construction will start, and we will end up with a brand new dock for our crew team.
VOLLEYBALL: Our volleyball team has had some great matches lately, many of them going to the fifth set. The team is competing tomorrow in the Bradenton Bayshore Invitational, and next Wed. the team will be at AHN for a big district match-up. That is one that you will want to put on your calendar. It should prove to be a great match.
I hope to see many of you at our Homecoming activities this evening. Stop by to say hello. You are all a vital part of Tampa Catholic, whether a student, parent, alum, faculty, staff, or fan. I know many of you bleed Green as I do. We wouldn’t be who we are without all of you. GO TC!!
