Happy New Year from the A.D.

The Athletic department here at TC, Benny Rodriguez and I, would like to wish all of you a happy and prosperous New Year.  Many of you have come to our aid, helping us with working the gate and the concession stands at our events and we are very thankful for your volunteering.

Christmas Tournaments

Both of our varsity basketball teams were very busy over the holidays and here are some updates.

Girls Basketball: Before Christmas our girls hosted a tournament here at TC that had some of the top area teams participate as well as a team from PA and one from GA.  Our team won the tourney with a victory over Palm Harbor University in the championship game.  After Christmas, the girls travelled to Atlanta to play in the St. Pius national tourney.  Our girls advanced to the championship game only to fall to Father Ryan out of TN.  That was our team’s first loss of the season.

IMG_0392_Dziagwa_500Wins.jpgBoys Basketball: The boys team played in the City of Tampa Championship Tournament (CTC) before Christmas held at Tampa Prep and won the tourney with a thrilling 74-73 score in the championship game over Tampa Prep.  The Crusaders now have back to back championships in this tourney and have won it 3 out of the last 4 years.  During the tourney, I coached my 500th victory which just shows that I must be getting old.  Thanks to all of you for the kind words and notes I received.  After Christmas, the team travelled to Raleigh, NC for the John Wall Invitational. Playing in front of capacity crowds each night the Crusaders advanced to the championship game only to fall to Hillcrest Prep out of Phoenix, AZ.  Hillcrest is an international prep school that has the top-rated player in the country.  While in NC the team had the opportunity to visit and practice at both Duke and UNC, as well as attend an UNC game.  It was a great experience for our players.

Jesuit Game: Tonight, is the TC-Jesuit game at Jesuit.  I would say I hope to see many of you there but the game is Sold Out and I know many of you won’t be able to attend.  Wish us luck.

Soccer: Both the boys and girls soccer teams are back in action.  Neither team played over the holidays, but are ready for 2017.  Continue to check the TC website to find out about all upcoming games and matches.  We love to see you at our events.
