I’m quite sure that you have seen ‘Back To School’ signs up just about everywhere especially at stores all across the Tampa Bay area. Yes, we are back to school. The endless summer has come to an end and doesn’t it seem like it was Memorial Day a couple of weeks ago?
We hope that all of you are excited as we are. The athletic department here at TC plans on creating the future, not just letting it passively happen. Our fall teams have already started practicing or will very soon. Some of our winter teams are already planning strength and conditioning sessions to get ready for their seasons. Let’s take a look at some of our fall teams.
FOOTBALL: Coach Mike Gregory and his staff have been at work basically all summer getting ready for the season. For the first time in the history of TC football our team will be traveling to New Jersey in Sept. to play Bergen Catholic, a powerhouse football program. It should prove to be a great trip for the team and I’m sure many memories will be made. The team is again pre-season ranked as one of the top teams in Hillsborough County and in the entire area. We start the road to the post season next Friday, Aug. 19 at Gaither in the Kick-off Classic. Game time is 7:30.
GOLF: Coach David Frederick and Russell Spicola will have a complete girls’ team this year. Yes we have 5 girls that have committed to the golf team. That is up from only 3 last season and we actually will be competing as a full squad in matches. Also 9 boys have been practicing and they are hitting the ball straight and long, exactly what golfers look to do. We are really excited about our golf team this season. The team’s first match for both boys and girls will be Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Rogers Park here in Tampa. Rogers Park is our home course. Shorecrest is our opponent.
VOLLEYBALL: Coach Morgan Toney started this past July with open gyms, workouts, and camps and now the team is practicing everyday getting ready for the season. Morgan has added 2 new assistants this year, Brittany Tuliano, who will be the head JV coach and Keith Aeschback, one of our Theology teachers who will be helping with all facets of the program. The team will start with a pre-season tri-match at Calvary Christian in Clearwater on Thurs., Aug. 18
SWIM: Coach Ben Felts will be having a meeting today in Crusader Hall for all swimmers at 5:00. Any student who can swim is welcome to attend and join the team. The team returns one of the top swimmers in the entire country in Christin Rockway, a junior who you know by reading last week’s blog was invited to the Olympic tryouts this summer.
CROSS-COUNTRY: Coach Michele Small has had her runners out at Al Lopez Park as they get ready for their season. Many of the runners have been running throughout the summer and are continuing to get ready for the first meet of the year, Sat. Aug. 27 in the Wesley Chapel Wildcat Invitational.
CREW: Coach Pat Huey will be having an organizational meeting for Crew this Monday at the picnic tables right after school. No experience is necessary.
As you can see our coaches and student-athletes are not passively waiting for the future to come. They are out creating their own future. The start of a new school year is always a great beginning. Let’s make this year the best. With all of your help and support I’m quite sure that TC athletics will achieve great things. Remember we are all a part of creating this great TC legacy; on the field of play, in the classroom, and in the community. WE ARE TC.
