College Signings: Tampa Catholic has been very blessed over the years to have had many outstanding athletes that have gone on to play at the college level. This year is no different as 5 of our student/athletes signed National Letters of Intent this past Wednesday in Crusader Hall in front of classmates, teammates, family, friends, teachers, and coaches. It is always an exciting day for all of us in the athletic department. It is great to see how all the hard work over the years pays off for the students that get to continue to play at the next level. The statistics are something like only 3% of high school athletes will play in college so these athletes join an exclusive club.
Wednesday signings were:
|Alise Davis||basketball||Coastal Carolina University|
|Conor Grady||baseball||Florida State University|
|Caroline Perret||volleyball||Western Carolina University|
|Calvin Rucker||baseball||Prarie View A&M University|
Congratulations to all these student/athletes and their parents. You have a lot to be proud of.
Football: In what may have been one of the largest crowds in TC football history our Crusaders fell to Jesuit last Friday 34-14 here at Crusader Field. So now it’s on to the playoffs. We play tonight at home against Ocala Trinity Catholic in the first round. Game time is 7:00.
Swim: Two of our swimmers have advanced to the state meet being held today in Stuart at the Sailfish Splashpark Aquatics Athletics Center. Christin Rockway won both the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 500 yard freestyle at the regional meet, and Lauren Conway placed in both the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 100 yard breaststroke. Both of these student/athletes are swimming today in Stuart. The team placed 8th out of 24 teams at the Regional meet.
Girls Soccer: The girls’ soccer team is off to a great start. The team is 4-0 having defeated Indian Rocks Christian, Calvary Christian, and Springstead twice. We may have something special happening with this team.
Boys Soccer: Our defending state runner-up boys’ soccer team has played one match and went down to defeat to St. Pete Catholic. It’s early in the season and last year’s team had many seniors that need to be replaced.
Boys & Girls Basketball: Both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are getting ready for their pre-season games. The girls start this week while the boys start next week. Of interesting note USA Today came out with a list of 15 must see high school boys’ basketball events for this season and our boys team will be playing in 3 of those events. As you can imagine these events are loaded with top teams from around the country. It will be interesting to see how the Crusaders stack up with these elite teams.
Make plans to see as many of our events as possible. Thank you for coming out to last week’s football game. The TC crowd was unbelievable. Don’t stop believing in our teams. They are all working hard. Remember we are all a part of developing champions on the field of play, in the classroom, and in the community. Go TC!
