In a historic announcement filled with much fanfare and celebration, Tampa Catholic was honored to welcome back one of their own, Arnie Bellini, class of 1976, who presented the school with a monumental $7 million gift.
The check was presented in the school gymnasium before esteemed board members, the student body, parents and alumni. The money will be used toward a $23 million fundraising campaign that includes five capital projects that support the innovation and modernization of programs around the arts, sciences, technology and physical fitness.
It is the single largest gift ever to a Catholic school in Florida and marked the beginning of a planned $70 million investment by Mr. Bellini and the Bellini family into the Tampa Bay community.
Mr. Bellini, the founder of ConnectWise, sold his company earlier this year to a Silicon Valley private equity firm. He credits Tampa Catholic for shaping his life and hopes his gift will impact students today so that they will return and give back in the future.
“Today, we will change not only Tampa Catholic, but we will change Tampa,” Mr. Bellini said. “Together, we have the opportunity to change the world.”
School leaders called the gift both unprecedented and transformational.
“We are so very grateful to the Bellini family for making this commitment to Tampa Catholic, but also to the Diocese and to the Tampa Bay community,” said Gregory L. Parkes, Bishop of the Diocese of St. Petersburg. “It’s inspiring to see a family that has achieved success and wants to share that with others.”
