Aug 21 Welcome back to another school year. We enter the year with high aspirations for all of our athletic teams and again look for the great support that you have provided in the past. Here’s an update on some of our fall teams that have been practicing hard now, some for several weeks. FOOTBALL: Our football team takes to the field tonight in a kick-off classic game against Gaither HS right here on Crusader Field at 7:00. Although this game doesn’t count toward the regular season it’s a great way for our team and coaches to assess where they stand heading into the opener next Friday, also at home against Indian Rocks Christian. That game will be on BrightHouse TV with a start time of 7:30. Come out tonight to get a preview of this year’s team. VOLLEYBALL: Let’s all welcome Morgan Toney as our new Varsity volleyball coach. Morgan was our assistant coach last year and has now moved into the varsity position. We are sure that she will do an outstanding job as she inherits a team with several top players returning from last season. The team started their season last night as they are in a pre-season tournament being held at AHN. The team plays tomorrow morning also at the Academy at 10:00. Their first regular season match will be next Tuesday when they travel to Seffner Christian.GOLF: The golf team has just had their first practices this week. We want to welcome Russell Spicola as our new assistant coach. Along with head coach David Frederick they make a great staff to work with our golfers. CROSS-COUNTRY: The cross-country team has been running throughout the summer led by coaches Steve Adler and Michelle Small. We are sure that all this summer running will pay off in races this year. The team’s first race will be next Thursday, Aug. 27 at Lennard. SWIMMING: The swim team has started practicing this week. Their season will start in a couple of weeks. The team practices at Carrollwood Country Club. SUMMER EVENTS: I can’t go without saying something about one of our basketball players. Junior Kevin Knox was selected to the USA 16U National Team this past summer. He represented the United States in competition in Argentina in June and led the team to a Gold medal. I hope to see everyone at the game tonight. Remember we are all a part of building champions, on the field, in the classroom and in the community. GO CRUSADERS!!
