The TC Lacrosse (LAX) team enters it’s fifth season, now under the direction of new Head Coach, Carlos Rodriguez. With the 2008 opener just days away, TC had not found a head coach and was keeping the season alive by holding “Captain’s Practice” led by senior Captains Bobby Griffin, Nick Gutierrez, and Will Greaves. 2007 TC graduate Adam Steele returned to help and put the young team to work.

Freddie Langiotti was able to preserve the season by hiring Coach Rodriguez who played Division I lacrosse at Oswego State University. With just one practice under their belt, TC defeated Wharton 8-5 in the home opener. Senior Attackman Nick Gutierrez scored 4 goals and added 2 assists to Midfielder Rocky Borseth. Midfielder Bobby Griffin contributed 2 goals and Goalie Mike Ciccarello received the game ball for his efforts “in the pipes”.

The offense is led by All-District Midfielder Rocky Borseth, All-District Attackman Nick Gutierrez, and senior Attackman Bobby Griffin. The defense is led by 4-year starter Will Greaves, versatile senior PJ Briody, and Matt Boggs. New additions include Midfielder Dan Sanabria and Defenseman Trevor Funk who are rapidly improving.

Injuries and inexperience have plagued the team. Senior Midfielder AJ Nolan will miss the remainder of the season due to a severe ankle sprain while starting goalie Mike Ciccarello is out for the remainder of the year with a shoulder separation. This young team shows the desire to learn and compete against Hillsborough county’s most experienced teams. We need EVERYONE at Tampa

Catholic to come out and support both the boys’ and district champion girls’ LAX teams this season. Once you watch………you’ll want to play!
