English Classes Celebrate Beat Generation Poetry
February 15th, 2012
As the culminating event of their Poetry Unit, Mrs. Paidas’s English I CP and Honors classes transformed Room 226 into The Paidas Poetry Place, a café designed for poetry appreciation and modeled after the coffee houses of the Beat Generation. The students chose a poem to present as a dramatic reading and using a high level rubric which included the use of pauses, articulation, clarity of thought, and eye contact/body movements, they seized the microphone, and transported their audience to a world of beautiful, heartfelt language. So enthusiastic were some performers that the snaps of appreciation were heard throughout the North building. Guest filtered in and out of our café during the three days of presentations and a rewarding experience was had by all. This is what education is all about-Learning can be interactive, rewarding, and fun!
