Ash Wednesday
February 22nd, 2012
Tampa Catholic celebrated Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent with prayer services in our school chapel, followed by the distribution of ashes. Deacon John Iadanza, Chairman of the Theology Department, led the prayer services. The students were reminded that the Season of Lent is an invitation to 40 days of renewal, 40 days to prepare ourselves to take in the Good News of Easter through deeper disciplines of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Ashes are the traditional sign of sorrow and repentance. They also are a sign of our own mortality. In Genesis 3:19 we hear God tell us "for dust thou art, and into dust thou shalt return".
