COURSE SELECTION INFORMATION
FOR THE 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR
Planning for the 2010-2011 school year!!!!! School Counselors will visiting English classes during the week of March 8-12
to discuss course selection for the 2010-2011 school year. Counselors will be distributing course selection sheets and highlighting
prerequisites for various courses. For your convenience, the Course Catalog may
be accessed through the Tampa Catholic website. When choosing electives, please note the “Categories” listed under the course title (corresponding key in front section of the
catalog). Some electives meet the requirements of the Bright Futures Scholarship program
and/or the Florida State University System. Additional clarification may be obtained by contacting your student’s Guidance Counselor. As a reminder, in the event that a course has more students registered than can
be properly taught, students will be selected based on GPA and students with
the highest GPA will be admitted first. Please take time with your student to review the catalog and assist them in
making selections for next year. All selection sheets are due to the Guidance Department by March 19.
What is a Dual Enrollment Class?
Dual Enrollment (DE) courses are college level courses sanctioned by the State
of Florida and the State University System. Students earn high school
credits toward high school graduation requirements and at the same time earn
college credit toward a degree in the State of Florida University system. Some private and out-of-state colleges will accept credit for these courses as
transfer credits. They do so at their own discretion. These courses are administered by Hillsborough Community College (HCC). The instructors must have a Master’s Degree in their field of study and be approved by HCC as adjunct professors. The course content and syllabus must also be approved by HCC.
What are the requirements for Dual Enrollment?
To enroll in a DE course a student must meet the following criteria established
by Florida state statutes.
Currently be Sophomore or Junior
Have and maintain an unweighted cumulative GPA minimum of 3.0
Obtain a passing score on the CPT, SAT or ACT

What is the procedure for taking the College Placement Test (CPT)?
Students wanting to enroll in a Dual Enrollment course at TC must go to HCC’s Dale Mabry campus and take the CPT at their testing center. This test in administered free of charge. You may call the test center at 253-7393 for available times. Please allow 2 hours for testing. The testing center is located in the Student Services Building in room 203. Please be sure to identify yourself as a Tampa Catholic student requesting the
CPT for Dual Enrollment. Students will be required to provide a
picture ID and your social security number. It is the student’s responsibility to bring the test results to the Guidance Department at TC
prior to course selection. It is strongly recommended to take the CPT as soon as possible.
Students interested in Honors and/or Advanced Placement (AP) Courses are asked to speak with their teacher about requirements and prerequisites.
