Girls Lacrosse

The TC girls Lacrosse team capped off its undefeated regular season with a trip to the State final four in Boca Raton in mid-April. Going into the tournament, the team was an impressive 13-0 and had the opportunity to gauge their abilities against much tougher competition.  Coach Tim McGoff worked hard all year to get the Lady Crusaders in post-season form.

The Lady Crusaders were victorious in their semi-final game against Estero High School, 13-7.  That victory pitted TC against defending state champions Stoneman Douglas High School.  Despite a valiant effort, the Lady Crusaders fell to the highly talented Stoneman Douglas team, 18-9, who has been undefeated for the past two years.

All season, the Lady Crusaders have been led by a strong core group of players, while at the same time developing younger players through valuable playing time and a chance to contribute.  Next year’s team returns almost everyone off this year’s squad, graduating only three seniors.  The state tournament experience proved that this team can compete with any team in Florida.

Bernadette Leone, JoJo Chadwick, Shelby Ploucher, Gia DeNicola, and Veronica Cartaya were honored by being selected as District All-Stars.  Bri Scott, Miranda Nunez, and Carrisa Mastrorio were Honorable Mentions for the team.

Since the conclusion of the season Gia DeNicola and Bernadette Leone were named “Honorable Mention All American” by the Lacrosse Gulf Coach Chapter.

Your Crusader team has committed to working hard in the off-season to make another run at the state title next year. Congratulations to Coach Tim McGoff and his players on a successful 2011 season.

The founder of the lacrosse program at Tampa Catholic in 2004, Tim McGoff, returned this season to take over the Girl's Team. Coach McGoff has over 13 years of college and high school head coaching experience. 

He brings years of playing experience combined with a standout Div 3 lacrosse and football career at Norwich University.  Tim still plays today for a  competitive men’s travel team in the Southeast.  A native of Vermont, Tim moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1999.  Coach McGoff is also the current Head Coach for the USF Women's Lacrosse Team.

Lacrosse is the oldest indigenous sport in North America. It was invented and first played by Native Americans as a preparation for war. A game could go on for days, until the players’ exhaustion, or even their deaths, forced it to end. The game was adopted by French-Canadian explorers, who named it lacrosse because the stick resembled a Bishop’s crosier or cross. Today lacrosse is played in various European countries, and has been played here in the United Stated continuously since the 1880’s.
