The Game and State Competitions

The GAME: Tonight is the big football game between our Crusaders and the Tigers from Jesuit.  Jesuit has beaten us 16 consecutive years and having watched the Cubs win the World Series on Wed. after 108 years of not winning I think it’s about time for our football team to put an end to the streak just like the Cubs did.  Our team will have to play well as Jesuit enters the contest with an undefeated 8-0 record.  They are state ranked, but our team has played a very difficult schedule which should prove to be a benefit to us.  I hope to see all of you at the game.  It’s been a busy week selling tickets, buying concessions, and doing everything needed to put on a game of this magnitude.  We hope to still have some tickets available at the gate.  I would suggest getting to the game early if you want a seat.  We anticipate a packed stadium.  For the second week in a row we are the Bright House Game of the week.  We will be charging for parking in both the stadium lot and the lot on the school side of campus.  I have been suggesting this for several years as a way for our athletic department to generate additional revenue so we begin with tonight’s game.  This will only be for our football games including next week’s playoff game that we will host on Nov. 11 against Trinity Catholic of Ocala.  I can assure you that the money will all be used for good causes.  You might even notice some of the work that has already begun such as the painting of the football fieldhouse.  We have a lot of plans to beautify campus, and welcome any donations that you could make or at the least donate $5 to park at our games.  As always we thank you for your great support.

SWIM: We will have two individuals and two relay teams representing us tonight in Ft. Myers as they swim in the regional.  Christin Rockway and Lauren Conway both qualified in individual events.  Abigail Noel and Lillian Garrett will join Christin and Lauren in two relay events.  Christin set two pool records during the district tournament at Berkeley last week.  Her records came in the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 500 yard Freestyle.  She broke one record that was held by a girl who went on to swim for the University of Georgia and was named all-American 7 times.  Christin is only a junior and now holds that record.  Her future is unbelievably bright.

GOLF: Dylan Sanchez competed last weekend in the state golf tournament in Howie-in-the-Hills.  Although he did not win the state championship it was a great achievement to make it to states.  It has given him some great experience that he should be able to build on. He in only a sophomore.

CROSS COUNTRY: The girls cross country team ran in the regional race last week in Lakeland.  Although none of our individual runners qualified for the state meet nor did our team, the girls can be very proud of their accomplishments this season.  They continue to get better every year.

GIRLS SOCCER: Our girls’ soccer team is off to a fast start as they currently are 2-0.  They defeated both Indian Rocks Christian and Springstead in their first two matches.

OTHER SPORTS: Boys’ soccer, girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, competitive cheer, and crew are continuing to practice with their seasons fast approaching.

Thanks you for your continued support of all of our teams.  Our athletes and coaches are all working very hard to represent Tampa Catholic well on the field of play, in the classroom, and in the community.  They need your support.  GO TC! BEAT JESUIT!
