National English

Founded in 2008, the Linda D. Flowers Chapter of the National English Honor Society is dedicated to excellence in English.  The motto of the NEHS is “Gelast (JELL-AST) Sceal (SKAY-ALL) Mid Are (AH RAY)”—“Duty Goes with Honor.”  In addition to living out this maxim, the Society hopes to accomplish the following goals:

  • to recognize those who, on the basis of academic grades and performance, merit special note for their accomplishments;
  • to nurture these persons in order to develop further their abilities in the various fields of English; and
  • to encourage members to use their talents in service of others.

Chartered during the 2007-2008 school year, the chapter’s name honors Mrs. Linda Flowers, a long time teacher and English department Chairperson. Our alumni will be especially pleased with the society’s decision to honor Mrs. Flowers’ life long commitment to helping students realize the power and beauty of language and literature. Read a tribute to Mrs. Flowers written by Amy (Jones) Ramos, class of 1996 to better understand how blest TC is to have this fine educator on our campus.

Members and eligible students must:

  • have a 3.0 unweighted cumulative GPA.
  • have a 3.5  unweighted cumulative GPA in English.
  • be currently enrolled in an Honors, Dual Enrollment, or Advanced Placement English course.
  • have completed at least 3 Honors level courses in English, including the semester for which the student is being considered.
  • maintain Honors level coursework in English to maintain eligibility.
  • be current with Service Hours up to and including the semester for which the student is being considered.
