School Profile

Tampa Catholic High School is accredited by AdvancED Worldwide and is a member of the National Catholic Education Association.  It is a Roman Catholic, diocesan, co-educational, four year college preparatory school inspired by the Congregation of Christian Brothers.  Located in Hillsborough County with a county population of 928,731, Tampa Catholic serves the city of Tampa, Hillsborough County, and its surrounding counties.

 

Community and Faculty

The Tampa Catholic community draws students from all income levels, business and professional leaders, who support high education achievement and further pursuits.  The faculty is an experienced and dedicated staff.  There are thirty- five BA’s and thirty-seven MA’s on the teaching staff.  The current enrollment is approximately 700.

Graduation Requirements

A minimum of twenty-eight credits must be earned in grades 9-12 with a minimum grade point average of 2.0

  • 4          Theology
  • 4          English
  • 4          Mathematics
  • 4          Science (2 of these must include a laboratory component)
  • 4          Social Studies (Must include, at either the CP-I, College Prep, Honors, DE, or AP level, 1 credit of World History; 1 credit of American History; 1/2 credit of American Government, and 1/2 credit of Economics)
  • 1          ½ Personal Fitness and ½ Team Sports
  • 1          Performing Fine Arts
  • 2          World Language
  • 4          Electives
Program of Studies

Three programs of study are offered: General, College Preparatory, and Honors.  The General Program meets the needs of those students who plan to attend a community college, junior college, business college, or enter the field of work.  The College Prep and Honors programs meet the needs of those students who plan to attend a junior or four year college/university.  Honors and Advanced Placement courses have an additional weighted credit assigned in computing the grade point average.

Curriculum

Advanced Placement courses are offered in American Government,  Art History, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, English Literature, French Language, Physics, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, US History.  Online:  AP Biology.

Dual Enrollment courses are offered in American Government, Anatomy and Physiology, English 3 and English 4, British Literature, Political Science, US History.

Grading

A         90-100                        4.0

B         80-89              3.0

C         70-79              2.0

D         65-69              1.0

F          0-64                0.0
Computation includes a system of weighting Honors, AP, and Dual Enrollment courses.  Each Honors course receives an additional 0.5 quality point for the year.  Each AP and Dual Enrollment course receives 1.0 quality point for the year. 100% attend college
