Advanced Placement
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are the highest level high school courses offered in the United States. The curriculum is approved by the College Board. College and university admission teams view AP courses as strong indicators of a student’s success in college. Studies also show that students enrolled in AP courses have higher college graduation rates than students without AP. Students receive high school credits toward high school graduation requirements.
Tampa Catholic offers Advanced Placement courses beginning in the sophomore year. We encourage our students to enroll in courses that will challenge them academically and AP courses serve this role for our honors students. There is no limit to the number of AP classes a student may take in a given semester however students must meet the pre-requisites for each course as detailed in the Course Catalog.
Each May students completing AP courses take national, cumulative, rigorous, standard exams written by the College Board. Colleges and Universities award college credit, at their discretion, based on the student’s score on the exam.
We are pleased to offer a large number of Advanced Placement courses. Due to the rigor of the curriculum and the speed with which the material is covered, students must meet the pre-requisites for each course as detailed in the current year’s Course Catalog.
